The end!...And everything that comes after
The Fruitcakes have had kind of a whirlwind few years, for one reason or another, and it's easy (for me at least) to forget that we are still a young company, still cutting our teeth on the rusks of theatricality, whatever they may be.
We have just closed our second production, and all in all I'd say it was pretty successful. Here at Colour of Fruit we aim to make theatre that is fun and thought-provoking, theatre that attempts to ask questions, though the questions in question (ha) may not have an answer, and I think An Incident at the Border checks those boxes.
But as always at the close of a project, my mind turns not to where the project succeeded, but to where it did not. What would I change? What could we have done better? And the answer is usually quite a lot of things. But every experience is a learning experience, and while you always hope for everything to go perfectly, it's probably definitely not going to happen.
One of the hardest parts about forging your own path is admitting your limitations, we started our own company, we are limited by our own experience, our budget, our resources.
No one starts out making something perfect. If you did you'd have nowhere to go. The important thing is to continue to assess where you are, where you want to be, and how you get there.
So it is, at this moment, that I begin to ask of myself and the other fruitcakes, quo vadimus? Where are we going? This is a time of great change for us, and great possibility. I am excited to see where we will end up. Stick around and find out.
